Refashion: Purple Tank

Have you seen New Dress a Day?  It's one of my favorite blogs and the source of a lot of inspiration.  Marissa thrifts dresses and tops that are ill-fitting, stained, and way out of fashion and turns them into the most trendy and flattering clothing!  You really should check it out.

Well, I was so inspired that I refashioned a couple of my shirts.  I didn't take any before shots.  :(  I found this top that is a fairly close approximation to the one I had and cut up.

This top has the same type of flutter sleeves and the wide, scooped collar.  My shirt had a ribbed yoke collar (this one is braided) and it is purple.  When I wore it, I felt like a grape.  It was too long and too big and too plain and too purple!

So...I cut the collar and sleeves off and sewed everything up in a new configuration!

What was once the collar is now a band at the top that goes under my arms and all the way around.

What were once the sleeves are now the straps!

When it was all done, I thought it was still just a little too much like a grape.  So, I added some flowers!  These flowers are made with t-shirt material.  I just gathered them into the shape of a flower using a running stitch along one edge.  I sewed the edges of the flowers down to the shirt so they would stay open instead of drooping.  The center of the flower is made with braided metallic embroidery floss wrapped into a spiral and sewn down.

Don't be afraid to refashion your old clothes.  You might not want to wear them as they are, but you could turn them into something unique and fabulous!
